Under Floor Heating – Installation
The under floor heating installation in a new build typically starts as work proceeds on the base (from foundations to sub-floor)
The under floor heating can also be installed at the end of the build cycle, for example with existing buildings.
The first fix plumbing is installed on the sub-floor.
Insulation is then installed:
- It is recommended to have two layers of high density insulation ( each of 50mm minimum)
- Care should be taken to reduce gaps and heat loss and to ensure that the first fix plumbing is covered
- This leaves a clean surface on which to install the under floor heating pipe work
It is important to plan and allow sufficient height to accommodate the insulation and finished floor screed (75mm to 125mm of screed is the norm) So, for example:
With 100mm of insulation, plus 100mm of screed, there is a total of 200mm of height requirement to the finished floor level.
Edge insulation is installed around the rising walls – internal and external – to prevent thermal bridging.
Once the installation and pressure testing of the under floor heating pipe work is complete, the screed for the finished floor can be poured.
