What are the “BER” ratings?
BER’s (Building Energy Ratings) indicate how much energy your house is likely to use for heating, hot water, lighting and ventilation during a typical year.
The actual energy usage may differ, depending on the how the energy is used by the occupants.
From Jan 1st 2009, a BER certificate is a requirement for all homes being sold or offered for rent
The BER uses a scale of A-G, similar to the energy labels on household appliances.
The ratings are given in kilowatt hours of primary energy (kWh(P)) per square meter per annum.
Primary Energy is the delivered energy plus an allowance for “overheads” incurred in extracting, processing and transporting a fuel or other energy carrier to the dwelling.
