14:30 – 15:00       Low Energy/Passive Design for New & Existing Houses

Tomás O’ Leary, is a director of MosArt Architects, a firm specialising in Passive House design.

 

Tomás built and lives in Ireland’s first Certified Passive House and will share his experiences at the Information Day. He will also illustrate how existing homes can be radically upgraded in terms of energy efficiency.

Joseph Kearney, director of BERcerts.ie, which specialises in energy audits and BER assessments of both domestic and commercial properties.

 

Many home owners are shifting their attention to reducing energy consumption rather than moving house. The majority of clients are contacting BERcerts.ie to find how to reduce energy consumption in the homes the most cost effective way possible.  Joe will cover the Home Energy Saving grants and highlight some typical ugrade options; taking examples from some case studies that he has worked on.

             Airtightness & Natural Insulation for Healthy Low Energy Construction


   Niall Crosson

Niall Crosson, of Ecological Building Systems, specialists in the supply of airtight systems and thermal and acoustic insulation products.

 

Research has shown that up to half of all heat losses in buildings can be due to air leakage and uncontrolled ventilation.  Niall's presentation will cover the types and benefits of natural insulation, how to achieve airtightness and the associated benefits .

Tim Cooper, director of CGE Cool Power, a leading provider of solar electricity systems (PV) in Ireland.

 

Cool Power supplies and installs residential and commercial solar PV systems all over Ireland.  Tim will describe some of the most common examples of energy inefficiencies that he has encountered and will suggest some simple low cost remedies.  He will also cover the economics of solar PV systems, with reference to a retrofit case study.
